CONCEAL GUIDE

Reduce your online footprint, one source at a time

Aim for a manageable process rather than an impossible disappearing act.

Make an inventory

Begin with the accounts, public profiles and listings you already know about. Record the source URL, the information visible and whether you control the account. Work from your own information and use example data when testing a new tool.

Separate the source from the search result

Changing a page and changing a search listing are separate tasks. If you control the source, update or delete it there first. For a third-party page, use its published correction or removal process and keep the response.

Track outcomes

Distinguish a submitted request from a confirmed change. Revisit the actual page after a response. Keep a small record of what changed and what remains, rather than treating a count of sent requests as a count of removals.
